Final Reflection blog of S1Q1

Final Reflection blog of S1Q1:
1) Is the unit interesting? Why?
2) Are the assessments relevant?
3) What have I learned throughout this unit?
4) What can be improved?

In this quarter, we were learning about Myths. We learned about what is myth, what is the difference between myth and legend, what is the intersection of myth with religion and culture. This unit is very interesting because we could read more myths in the world and knew more about the myths. In my opinion, this unit is interesting because it helped us to expand our creativity and knowledge about myths.

The assessments are relevant because it helped us to improve our understanding on the myths that we learn our creativity on creating story and elements of myth. The things that can be improved on are the creativity of creating story, skill of writing a story, vocabulary and grammar because my vocabulary bank is narrow and sometimes, the grammar that I use is wrong. I need to improve on the creativity of creating story because I need to make the story more interesting and I need to improve on the skill of writing a story because sometimes, my story is not arranged well or the reader cannot understanding the story.

English Reflection 6

29 August 2014

1. What do I understand from today’s lesson?
2. Why do you think almost every ancient civilization believe in God?
3. Why do you think as humans grow increasingly modern, we stopped to believe in religion?

From today’s lesson, I have understood more about different myths in the world about the creation. Today’s we did a group work and the task was to create a word splash about Gods in different myths. We have presented our work to the class. I had a better understanding base on the characteristics of Gods in different myths through the presentation.

Base on my understanding, almost every ancient civilization believe in God because their, actions, religion, stories, myths, culture and everything are related to their belief in God.

Base on my opinion, as humans grow increasingly modern, we stopped to believe in religion because the science in nowadays are becoming more and more advance and they cannot use science to prove that the myths are real or Gods really exist. So, people stopped to believe in religion because they believe more on science.

Reflection Blog 4

121 August 2014

. What do I understand from today’s lesson?
2What do I believe about creation?
3What is our purpose in this world?
4From today’s lesson, which creation myth is the most interesting myth presented and why?

From today’s lesson, I have learnt more about different versions of “The Creation Myths” of different country such as Korean, Japanese, Egyptian, Chinese and Hindu. Other than that, we also did some revisions on the Literary Devices because most of us already forgot the literary devices. Before the lesson, I have already forgotten about metaphor, symbolism and allegory. But after the lesson, I have understood about them.

From what I believe about creation, I believe on the scientific statement because I don’t believe that people were created by God using mud, God’s body part or God created human by bare hands. In my opinion, our purpose in this world is to make our life colourful and make a better world.

From today’s lesson, the most interesting creation myth that are presented in class is the story creation myth of Egyptian because the way they present it is very interesting and funny. The IB learner profiles that I have used during today’s lesson are communicator, knowledgeable and caring because we communicated among the group mates while doing group discussion, we gained more knowledge and used our knowledgeable and we were being caring to our group mates and helped each other.

Reflection Blog 3

13 August 2014

From today’s lesson, I have understood about Greek methodology and we have to be brave and try on everything, not avoid obstacles. From the story that we read today, the moral that we learned is, don’t dream too big, or we will fail but don’t dream too low, or we will get into trouble. The story is telling us that, the people in the past just follow their family’s foot step and they cannot dream too big or too low, that means, the whole family and generations are doing the same thing following their family’s foot step.

In my opinion after reading the story, it is better to play it safe but sometimes, we can try to achieve high goals but not the loftiest or craziest goals because we must make sure that the things or goal that we are doing is safe. But sometimes, we can try to achieve high goals because there need to be something special happens in our life, or miracles, if could.

Base on the story, Daedalus decides to build a temple after his son dies. In my opinion, he wants to distract himself from his son’s dead so, he decides to build a temple after that. Until now, I have not ever distracted myself from bad news with a big project, only with my hobbies such as listening to songs, reading, chatting with friends or playing games. I do hobbies when I face a bad news to vent my bad emotions.

Reflection 2

8 August 2014
Today, we were doing a group work during the English lesson. After we got into groups, we started to decide on which myth we are going to choose and we did a mind map base on the myth that have been chosen and presented it to the class.

From today’s lesson, I have understood more about myth after the presentation. A myth is usually related to the religion and culture of different race, different country and places. Different people might hear different ways of myths because everyone tells the myth in different ways. For example, from what I have read about “The Midus Touch”, the King touched himself and he became gold too but from the story that I have presented today, the King did not touch himself but he touched his daughter, Princess Zoe.

Today’s lesson is very important to us, because it could help us to have a better understanding on what is a myth and how is it different from a story. A better understanding can let us to feel easier in the upcoming lessons. I am going to use what I have learned today in the future lesson by transferring the knowledge that I learned on the group works or individual works that we are going to do.

From today’s lesson, the myth about Zodiac is the most interesting to me story among the all myth presented because I am curious about the origin of zodiac when I was small. There are so many zodiacs in it and why is rat the first? This myth is very interesting because the zodiacs are very clever. Some of the animals in the zodiac are very good to their friends because the ox and horse helped their friend during the race.

The IB learner profiles that have used during today’s lesson are communicator and knowledgeable because we communicated among the group mates while doing the group work and we understand about the myths that we were going to tell before we did the presentation.

Reflection 1

5 August 2014

From today’s lesson, I knew about the trinity of this unit. I understand about the differences between myth and legend after the lesson because we did group activity to discuss about it. Today’s lesson is very important for us because we must know about what is myth and legend and what are their differences before we continue to another lesson. We are going to use the knowledge that we learnt today, so today’s lesson is very important. I am going to use the knowledge that I have learned today in the future lessons by transferring it into the works and activities.

The interesting myths that I have heard are Monkey King, Mulan and dragons. I heard these myths from my family and friends around me, Mulan is a myth that I knew from book. From the myths that I know, there are supernatural things in it which do not exist in real life and were being created by the people randomly. Mulan is a real person who really existed in real life but the myth that I know already being changed into an unreal. Dragons do not exist in real life but most of the Chinese believe that it really exist in real life and they it as their holy.
